As they pointed out highlights and criticized segments of last week’s virtual Democratic National Convention, late-night televisions began to do the same again for this week’s Republican National Convention.
The first night of the Republican National Convention, held at the Charlotte Convention Center in North Carolina, saw Donald Trump Jr., Tim Scott, Kimberly Guilfoyle and others supporting the cause of President Trump’s re-election. From first-night speech burns to big Photoshop skits, here’s how some late-night folks reacted to the NCR kickoff.
Stephen Colbert gave the 2020 election another Avengers spin in response to the RNC’s first night.
At last week’s Democratic National Convention, The Late Show America: Endgame skit saw left-wing politicians as the heroic bunch of super-humans. Leading the pack was Joe Biden’s Captain America, backed by Kamala Harris’ Captain Marvel and Barack Obama’s Iron Man. The latest skit, however, takes a closer look at who makes up Trump’s entourage. In the video, the president, who is Marvel’s alternate world super villain Thanos, has William Barr as a giant beast, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner as intergalactic henchmen, and First Lady Melania as Thor: Hela of Ragnarok. . The video features Mitch McConnell as the Red Skull and also Mike Pence … himself.
“I’m not taking responsibility at all.

Daily Show host Trevor Noah also spoke on the first night of the Republican National Convention. While his contribution was not as fantastic as Colbert’s, Noah gave a brief look at what the event’s premiere looked like.
He began his recap by noting how some of The Apprentice producers got involved in the 2020 event.
Does this mean Trump is considering firing people? “Noah asked excitedly.” Perhaps, if we’re lucky, this week will end with the dismissal of one of his sons by Trump. ”
Noah also drew attention to the RNC’s appeal, which was considerably less diverse than the one presented at the Democratic National Convention. While Monday’s call wasn’t as “good” as it was last week in Noah’s eyes, it was still interesting, he said.
The late-night announcer continued to poke fun at some of the more extravagant phone calls, with a representative from North Carolina saying the state’s “fools” had voted “hot” for president in another representative of the state by mixing the words “abolitionist” and “segregationist” in their speech.
“The RNC call was depressing, at least one DNC had a ninja leader posing on a beautiful beach,” he joked. “The most interesting person here seems to be taking her photo after being arrested for sweating too much.”
Earlier in the segment, Noah also recognized the need for a Trump-centric convention.
Last week, the host and comedian said the DNC’s presentation of guests from various political parties was meant to get some Republican and uncertain voters to vote for Biden. But with Trump speaking about the convention almost every night, Noah said the RNC has another goal.
“The Republican Party, on the other hand, only cares about the peaceful Trump because he’s his party now. If you don’t like him, you can shut your mouth or join John Kasich in this area.”
