The LIBRARY SCIENCE CURRICULUM, the library studies, or the library and information science is actually a field which uses the information from the different perspectives, the information technology sector, the tools of management, the education systems, and the other areas that are related to libraries. The Library Science is not only useful for the purpose of library management; it is also used in the businesses and organization, to disseminate the information resources, for the political purpose, and in the economy as well. Hence, we can say that the Library Science in an important aspect of education and it is helpful in many different areas of life.
There are number of institutes all over the world that offer the degree of Bachelor`s and Master`s of Library Science. Moreover, the importance of the Library Science has been recognized by the Information Technology sector as well and now the degree of Master of Library and Information Science or MLIS is also offered. Similar to other programs, the Library Science also follows a curriculum and some of the core subjects are listed below:
* Information Sources and Services
In this course, the introduction is given to the students regarding the reference and information services. The students learn to use different electronic equipments that are used in libraries.
* Collection Development Course
In this particular course, the students of Library Science learn the concepts that are behind maintaining and building the collections of materials in the library.
* Organizational Behavior
One of the other courses that are taught in this program is call the Organizational Behavior. Here, the students learn the types of behavior of the workers that are working in the company. It also includes the diversity in the organization and its management.
* Information Technology
The Information Technology is also taught in the Library Science because it covers most of the aspects of our lives. We can also say that there no aspect of life that is left untouched by the Information Technology. So, it is important for everyone to study this course.
* Adult Literature
The Adult Literature focuses on the overviews and collection of the history of electronic, print, online, and audiovisual materials. These materials are used for the educational and the recreational purposes of the students.
* Children’s Literature
This course is especially designed for the individuals who want to work for the entertainment and educational needs of children. The course includes the study of different writers, and the trends and themes in the literature for children according to different age groups.
These are the core and the main courses that our taught in most of the institutes for the Library Sciences. However, the number of the courses and the curriculum may vary from one university to another. Moreover, they do not only rely on the theoretical part of the studies, they also go for the practical implication of whatever they teach. So, universities also require their students to complete a thesis, the research projects, and an internship as well. These practical implications make the students realize the real world in a better way.
