Bruce Williamson, former singer of R&B group The Temptations, is dead, according to a Facebook post from his son. He was 49 years old.
“There is no word in the world that can express how I feel right now,
” Williamson’s son wrote in a message Monday morning. “I love you daddy, thank you for being awesome, thank you for being loving, thank you for being who you are.”
Williamson reportedly joined the group in 2007, replacing outgoing tenor G.C. Cameron, and he left in 2015.
The lineup of The Temptations has changed frequently since the original band formed nearly 60 years ago. The act remains best known for its 1960s hit streak, including “My Girl” (1964) and “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” (1966).
The New York Times, reviewing a seven-night-on-Broadway production of The Temptations in 2014, called Williamson “a discovery: a tall, light man standing up and, most importantly, full of gospel with gospel timing.”
This is the latest news. Update for updates.
“He had multiple paths, from vocals to the rasp, and he could come across both energetic and desperate,” the Times of Williamson performance wrote.
