New Fortnite season sees Marvel’s greatest heroes vs. Galactus

August 27, 2020 by Victor Leave a Comment

The final season of Fortnite has arrived and some of Marvel’s greatest heroes are joining forces to help save the island from battle royale.

The new season – technically Chapter 2:

Season 4 – is dubbed the “War of the Nexus” and is a comic book-style event where the main characters come together to fight the villain who is destroying the planet Galactus. Those who purchase the Fortnite Season Battle Pass will be able to unlock Iron Man, Storm, Mystique, Doctor Doom, Groot, and She-Hulk, as well as an amnesiac Thor. Developer Epic also claims that a certain member of the X-Men will be available later in the season: “Watch out, Wolverine has been spotted on the island and will not shut up.”

We know the new Fortnite season would have been Marvel-themed from last week, and Epic followed that up by releasing an in-game comic describing the upcoming story. The comics explain exactly how the crossover happened; in essence, the island power of Fortnite drew Thor and Galactus, with Thor ultimately summoning other heroes – including Iron Man, Wolverine, and Captain America – to help him. At one point, Thor drops his iconic hammer and a crater appeared on the island of Fortnite in the game where he landed. The comic ended with the phrase “to continue in the fourth season”. Epic describes the conflict as “the war to save reality”.
Fortnite has long been home to licensed superhero characters, from the Avengers and Batman to more recent inclusions like Deadpool and Aquaman. However, an entire themed season is new territory for the Battle Royale game. The latest update follows Season 3, where a giant storm flooded the island for a while.  Oakland: “Agitators” vandalize court

Of course, there’s a lot more going on in the world of Fortnite than just a new season.

Epic is currently in the middle of a legal battle with Apple and Google over App Store fees. The developer first introduced a new payment option in the mobile versions of Fortnite; Apple and Google both responded by throwing the game out of their stores, which led to a lawsuit against Epic. The developer even posted a parody video and a Fortnite tournament to generate support.

For this reason, the new Marvel-themed season of Fortnite will be the first not to be available on all platforms. Those who play on Apple devices, including iPhones, iPads, and Macs, don’t have access to the latest update.
